OUR MISSION
What is theASCENT?
theASCENT is a three year discipleship process for Catholic young people in years 10-12 who want to embrace their faith in Jesus Christ at a whole new level and learn how to share it with others. At our heart we seek to disciple the few for the sake of the many so that the Gospel may reach the ends of the earth.
WHAT'S INVOLVED
What's involved?
We believe in...
A relationship, not a programme.
We believe accompaniment is at the heart of discipleship formation: “The ‘art of accompaniment’ teaches us to remove our sandals before the sacred ground of the other” (Evangelii Gaudium 169). As a process, theASCENT aims to be forming disciples for the long haul through immersion, input, apprenticeship and activation.
Parents as the primary educators in the faith.
We believe in parents as the "primary educators in the faith". We, therefore, see our role to encourage and compliment them in their own discipleship of their children.
Baptism in the Spirit and developing prayer lives.
“We believe that Baptism in the Holy Spirit authenticates and revitalises our baptism” Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, Preacher to the Papal Household. We aim to build on the experience of being filled with the Holy Spirit through developing the sacramental and personal prayer lives in our young people so that it might be both consistent and life-long.
Mission that has a local impact.
We believe that theASCENT exists to empower the local church by fostering vocation and encouraging young people to be directly involved in their parishes and local pastoral initiatives.
Collaboration amongst ministries.
We believe that a variety of groups, organisations and ministries working together can provide some of the most holistic formation possible. We seek to be ecumenical with a Catholic heart.
Honouring the grace in the place.
We believe that what we bring is unique, but that it must always compliment the core charism of the community that we are collaborating with.

What drives us is...
PRAYER
theASCENT seeks to raise up a generation who pray and impact their localities through the Gospel. This is our call as disciples of Jesus; to spend time with Him every day in the secret place of prayer, to know Him more intimately and to know His heart for the environments and people He has placed around us.
TESTIMONY
Vulnerability inspires vulnerability. We want every person to walk in true freedom and integrity and therefore we share our testimony of God’s faithfulness so that all may come to know the freedom found in Jesus.
WELCOME
We choose always to be welcoming. We are an inclusive community that gives our time to ensure that our welcome goes beyond what is easy to overflow into our everyday lives.
EXCELLENCE
We seek to practice excellence in everything we do but never at the expense of the presence. We will give our very best to our work for the glory of God, but our relationships are more important than our projects and the presence of God is more important than our programmes.
SERVICE
We know that our call as disciples is a call to serve. We are a community of people who seek to serve our friends, our neighbours and our society and therefore to impact our culture by the way we love and lead.
ENCOURAGEMENT
We will always strive to see each of our brothers and sisters as God sees them. We value acceptance before change because we know that with God’s help we can recognise the world changing potential inside every individual and help them to cultivate their character and gifting through the practice of encouragement.
